The Importance of Sleep

We all know that we feel better after a good nights sleep. It improves our mood, gives us energy and makes us more focussed.

But how important is it from an injury management and prevention perspective, well the answer is very important. A recent study found that extra sleep reduced the risk of stress fractures in army recruits, studies have also found it boosts your immune system. On top of this, a poor nights sleep has been proven to increase the bodies sensitivity to pain, this means that the same stimulus will cause more pain if you’re tired than if you are have had a good nights sleep.

Some tips for a good nights sleep include:

  • Having a regular pattern of when you go to bed
  • Avoiding naps
  • Avoiding screens for at least 30 minutes before bed
