What is Fatigue?
Fatigue is a state of exhaustion resulting from exercise. It is a combination of a response from the muscles and the central nervous system. The common signs of fatigue are muscle soreness and stiffness, reduced performance during exercise, tiredness and lack of energy.
Why is Recovery important?
As much as exercising regularly is important, resting and recovering is equally important!
- 1. It helps minimise the effects of fatigue;
- 2. Reduces the risk of injuries from overuse;
- 3. Improves quality of training and adaptation to exercise.

Recovery Strategies
There are few ways of recovering from your training session. The most applicable ones are:
- 1. Sleep – Best recovery method – Sleep is important for both physical and psychological recovery.
- 2. Active recovery – Keep moving – Doing light exercises such as walking and swimming can help you recover faster from a heavy training session.
- 3. Stretching – After training – Cooling down and stretching after exercising helps to reduce muscle soreness and tightness.
- 4. Massage – The most enjoyable one – Improves blood flow and helps reduce muscle tension, stiffness and pain.
