Shoulder Pain- Impingement

One of the most common causes of shoulder pain is what’s known as shoulder impingment, and is common in athletes who participate in upper body sports, people who work overhead, and in older people. Impingement occurs when structures in the shoulder joint are pinched while moving your arm, often because of a muscle imbalance around the shoulder blade that results in your arm moving suboptimally.

As well as treating and educating you on the best ways to get immediate pain relief, your physiotherapist can treat and prescribe stretches to relax overactive or tight muscles, and instruct you on specfic exercises to target weak or underactive muscles in order to correct the imbalance.
